There will be special emphasis on the wonderful walks in the area to enjoy the natural paradise in which we live. The list of walks, with full details is growing continuously and can be found on this link.
and on Monday 27 March 2023 there was a treasure hunt in the threatened forest.

Improvement to the road from Elviria to La Mairena

Marbellla Town Hall have started to renew various sections of the Avenida de España (the road from Elviria to La Mairena) to improve the safety of the road.

The councillor responsible, Diego López, said that it is one of the most important and busiest roads in the area, along which each day pass more than 15 buses and numerous families with children in the colleges, in addition to owners and residents, which makes it a very necessary project.

He stated that the work, which he estimates will take 3 months, will be centred on the reform of the pavements on three sections of the road, the eliminatiom of the lumps caused by the roots of the trees, the reduction in slippiness of the surface and the installation of protective barriers.

He clarified that the works would be carried out between the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, and La Mairena, because there are 3 sections that have the pavement in very bad condition, one of 82,5 square meters at the south, one of 84 square meters in the north and another in between of 37.5 square meters, so that in total they will construct more than 200 square meters of new surface for pedestrians.

He also explained that the roots of the trees have produced bumps and lumps in the tarmac which are a danger to the secure passage of vehicles, so the objective is to clear these roots, then repair the surface in 7 places with a total area of 230 square meters, and with the intention to do the same in more areas in future.

The councillor explained that the work will also improve the adhesion of the surface in 5 sections of the road, with a total area of 7.500 square meters, by installing a micro grooved surface which will be especially effective on humid and rainy days, and they will also install protective crash barriers to increase the security.

Dogs loose in La Mairena

There have been numerous complaints about dogs loose in the streets of La Mairena and several reports of them attacking pedestrians.

The head of the PSOE political party has filed an official complaint with the mayor of Ojén demanding that measures be taken to remove this danger and allow pedestrians to walk in safety.

Here are links to the formal document and the official register of the submission of the document.

Here is a translation of the formal document:

Water Shortage

This has just (22 November 2023) been published, in Spanish, by the Ojén Town Hall:

The Mayor makes it known:
The Junta de Andalucía has declared a situation of serious and exceptional water scarcity in the Western Costa del Sol System to which Ojén belongs, indicating that. In this scenario, water-saving plans will be activated with the objective of achieving at least a 20% reduction in urban supply (BOJA number 208 of October 30, 2023).

In general, it is requested from citizens, as well as those responsible for facilities, both public and private, that they make responsible, supportive and efficient use of water, reviewing possible leaks and applying all possible measures to avoid unnecessary consumption.

The measures that will come into force, immediately after the publication of this announcement, are the following:

  • Prohibition of irrigation of gardens, orchards, meadows, parks, or green and sports areas, public or private.
  • Prohibition of washing streets, sidewalks, or facades, public or private, except those authorized for health reasons. Under no circumstances will water suitable for human consumption be used for this purpose.
  • Prohibition of filling or refilling private swimming pools.
  • Prohibition of showers and public fountains.
  • Prohibition of car washing except in authorized establishments that have water recycling and recirculation systems.
  • Prohibition of using water from hydrants without express written authorization from the supplying entity or the City Council, except in cases of fire.
  • Sources for human consumption will be used exclusively for this use, and any other use will be restricted.
The Local Police may carry out surveillance and control tasks in compliance with the established measures and, if necessary, will inform this Mayor's Office of any offending conduct, which may be sanctioned with the corresponding fines according to the current legislation in each case.

This order will come into force the day after its publication on the municipal notice board and will have an indefinite duration until an order is issued that annuls it or the end of the drought situation is declared and may be complemented with new measures if the situation so requires. What is made public for general knowledge and for the appropriate purposes, we strongly request all citizens to collaborate for its compliance.

In Ojén on November 22, 2023.
Mayor
Juan Merino Marquez
